George Webster

George is a 23 year old BAFTA award winning TV presenter, actor, author and dancer from Leeds. He made history when he became the first CBeebies presenter with Down Syndrome, quickly becoming a fixture on the channel and securing a place in the Radio Times most influential TV personalities in 2022.

He has starred in a number of CBeebies programmes including Mr Tumble’s Busy Bus Day, Something Special, the CBeebies Pantos and House Specials. He is a regular host at BBC events, including the Storytime Tent and BBC 500 Words. As well as winning a BAFTA in 2022 for Best Children’s TV Presenter, George also appeared on the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special, both of which were widely applauded as both ground-breaking and a hugely positive step for representing disability. He speaks publicly about these issues as well as on other positive topics such as Good School Food, judging the Jamie Oliver Awards, and the positive power of parkrun.

His two books with Claire Taylor and Tim Budgen – This is Me! and Why Not? – have proved incredibly popular with people of all ages. He has read them at prestigious literary festivals like Hay and Edinburgh, inspiring people to find their glow and be the best they can be. He loved reading This Is Me! at Bestival in 2023, and introducing stars like Kate Winslet and Justin Fletcher to the CBeebies Storytime Tent.

George enjoys acting and has had a number of roles in films like The Railway Children Returns, BEBE A.I, and S.A.M (for which he won best performance at the Oska Bright Film Festival) and TV, for World on Fire and Casualty. He has also appeared on stage with the National Ensemble for Separate Doors Theatre Company and is touring the play “Back to Reality “with Les Sept Soeurs in France.

George is an ambassador for Yorkshire Dance and has toured with The Talent Hub Dance Company as well as being a long-standing part of Mesh Dance Company in Leeds. He is also a proud ambassador for Mencap; was recognised in the Shaw Trust Disability Power 100; awarded Young Person of the Year at the Yorkshire Awards for 2023; and will be the youngest ever recipient of the 2024 Doubleday Trust Award from Manchester University.
